Sydney offers up many areas and options when it comes to looking for a new property to rent or buy, but it’s the ocean proximity that appeals to so many residents. Here’s why we think living in a beachside suburb like Bondi Beach and nearby Bondi Junction can be pretty hard to beat…
The early morning swims & runs
The sun rises over the water in the mornings at Bondi Beach, so early morning is perfect time to be by the water. There are also fewer people around at this time which makes it even more special. You might run from home and use the street workout park right by the ocean, or quietly dip into the ocean for a few laps. And if the ocean’s looking less than perfect that day, you can always head to Bondi Icebergs Pool, McIver Baths in Coogee or Bronte Baths.
There’s always something happening on and near the beach in Sydney: from surf events and Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi Beach, to coastal walking tours and the Taste of Coogee. The Sun-Herald City2Surf run is one of the biggest annual events on the Sydney calendar, meandering along the coast from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach. In 2020 the run will be a virtual event – but we’re looking forward to the day when we can once again celebrate together on the beach at the end of this iconic run.
The coastal breezes and views
If you’re renting or buying in Bondi Beach or a surrounding suburb, you’ll know about the fresh ocean breezes – and if you’re lucky enough you’ll have stunning views over the ocean from your living spaces or bedroom. It’s one of the reasons rental properties in Bondi, Sydney are in such high demand, and you can’t find this kind of relaxed lifestyle just anywhere in the city.
The cafés and bars
From casual sandy-floored cafés to five-star dining, it’s all here by the beach. Our top picks for a great coffee are Speedos Café at the northern end of Bondi for a low-fuss experience overlooking the beach, and Trio for mouth-watering brekkies just across the road from the water. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a great cocktail, too – Mojo’s Tapas Bar and Bondi Beach Public Bar are just two of our favourites in this area.
The Bondi characters
And there are a lot of them. Bondi and Bondi Junction are socially and culturally diverse suburbs, and you’ll encounter a vibrant mix of people as you go about your days here. From the ultra-fit surf lifesavers and the devoted septuagenarian swimmers to the eccentric local characters, you’ll never have a boring day by the beach.
