It’s only natural that a world-famous beach like Bondi Beach will attract world-famous people too. There have been dozens of celebrity sightings at Bondi Beach in recent years, from Leonardo DiCaprio to Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber. So where are you likely to spot famous faces in the area?
In the water and on the sand
We know of a few famous Australian celebrities who have been spotted in the surf at Bondi Beach, including Chris Hemsworth, Russel Crowe and Hugh Jackman. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got barefoot in the sand in 2018 to participate in the local OneWave initiative, which raises awareness for mental health and wellbeing. Meanwhile, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson visited the North Bondi RSL and went for a stroll at the beach earlier this year.
At Icebergs Dining Room and Bar
The Dining Room and Bar at Icebergs has hosted many celebs over the years. Mick Jagger, Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung, and even Oprah have dined at the restaurant overlooking the water. Shoe designer Christian Louboutin once came in for four meals in a row. And in 2019, Nigella Lawson herself deemed Icebergs “her favourite restaurant in the whole wide world”. Her recommendations? The kingfish sashimi, Sydney rock oysters and the fresh Sgroppino cocktail.
Between the flags
Of course, we have our own Bondi Beach celebrities in the form of the Bondi Rescue cast. They’re of course real lifeguards doing their jobs, and you might spot them watching the waves each day. Just be sure to keep out of their way if they ever need to conduct a Bondi Beach rescue. The Bondi Rescue show has had guest appearances including Kelly Slater, David Hasselhoff, Conan O’Brien, Hugh Grant and even Mr. Bean, so you’ll never know exactly who you might see hanging out on the sand.
Out and about
There are several notable residents who live in Bondi Beach and surrounding suburbs, so we wouldn’t be surprised if you spot a familiar face as you pick up a coffee at your local café. Rose Byrne, Michael Clarke, Larry Emdur and James Packer have all lived in the area at some point, or still do. And who knows how many other well-known faces we might not know about!
